My Terrific Tuesday!

Tuesday’s are usually my day off, so I thought it would be a great day to start my new “thing”.  I am going to try to be super positive all day ( or at least kinda positive for most of the day, lol ) and then tell you all about it.  I can tell you’re thrilled huh?

So anyways – Here’s my Terrific Tuesday!

First thing this morning I was geeted by 2 very hyper (and wet) dogs jumping all over me in bed – reminding me that I have 2 awesome kids that not only get themselves up for school in the morning but they also get the dogs pottied, fed & watered too!

I finally was forced out of bed at noon by those same dogs howling at me from their kennels.  They don’t like to sleep all day like I do!  It was EXTREMELY nice to sleep in like that though!

I worked on the baby blanket I am knitting while I finished watching Devil Wears Prada.  It was very nice and quiet with both kids off at school and the Husband still sleeping.

When he woke up though I was ready to get a move on & do something!  Unfortunately, he did not share my enthusiasm and did NOT want to do anything. We chatted, flipped through the mail, ate “breakfast”, played with the dogs, watched the brand new baby guppies play hide & seek in the rocks, then it was nap time.

I know, I know, sleep til noon AND a NAP???  But it was my day off sooooo….

It was a wash anyways because I could no longer stand the dog smell in our room so we jumped up and cleaned our room , vacuumed AND shampoo’d!  And it was a super nice day out so we did it all with the windows open for some fresh air!

During all the cleaning my son got home from school and was happy to join in! He even did a few chores without having to be asked!  It was awesome!  He must have had a Terrific Tuesday too!

After that was all done I was able to work a few more rows into the blanket.  It is going to turn out great I can just tell!  It is really making me want to start another knitting or crocheting project, BUT I know that is probably why I have never really finished anything.  So I am going to behave and finish this before starting another one!

My Husband made awesome Goulash for dinner!  I love that fact that he cooks & I don’t have to!  He also made bread!  How cool is that?  I’ll have to get him to write the recipe so I can share it with you all!

After that, the Bug and I went to AC Moore  & just wandered around for a while feeling all the yarn & looking at all the stamping stuff.  It was nice & relaxing to just get out of the house!  Then we went to BAM & chatted with a few friends & looked at some books and magazines.

Now the kiddo’s are in bed (promptly at 8pm EVERY night,!) and the Husband is catching a few ZZZ’s before he goes to work.

It really was a terrific day!

On my last nerve February 9, 2010

I just got off work & had to get a few things off my chest to ensure a peaceful sleep…

• it’s a good thing my husband doesn’t read my blog – if he did he might know what’s going on in my life (intended to be read with a hint of sarcasm).  He has been slipping back into the old moods again & once again NO ONE can do ANYTHING right.  It’s very hard for me to deal with that crap right now!  I am so sick of hearing about how MY kids do this & MY kids do that.  I have accepted that he will never think of them as his own kids (which is really sad), but it would be nice if he would treat them as outsiders, and then it trickles down to me a lot too!  It is only going to get worse after the baby & after the visit from his family!
• I have asked for the last 3 days for MY kids to clean up the kitchen & it’s till not done.  He has been home with them for the last 2 nights while I was at work & has not helped to make sure that it is getting done.
• it is obvious right now that the dogs weren’t fed today!
• my back is killing me!  I hate to say it but the awesome pillow that he got me for V day is super uncomfortable!
• I would trade our entire movie collection for one decent comedy that I have not seen 10,000 times that is neither vulgar, sexual or a cartoon!!!
• Everything right now is irritating me!
• I am very NOT pleased about the fact that my husband told his family “we have plenty of room for you to stay with us”.  WHERE????  as I see it we have a 4 bedroom house with 3 kids and US – where is all this extra room???  “They can sleep in Bug’s room”  Really, then where will she sleep???  as I see it – $40 a night is really cheap & if someone doesn’t go stay at the hotel then i will!

ok, now that I have vented a little I feel better, AND there is almost nothing a silly cheerleader movie won’t fix.

Thankful for the little things February 3, 2010

I LOVE Three Thanks A Week!!  I don’t always take part, but I try to read it every week & think about what I am thankful for.  It always reminds me that no matter how bad things may seem, there is always something to be thankful for.

Of course we always remember to be thankful for the big things in life that happen.  Promotions, vacations, births & such, but what about all the little things that happen daily??  My sister, Bek, is the best at this that I have ever seen.  She always remembers the small things that went right during the day.  I love it when she reminds me “well, at least [blank] didn’t happen”!

So, today, as I am faced with a million things that could go wrong, I am remembering to be thankful for the little things.

TODAY I AM THANKFUL FOR…

• my new coffee pot.  I have finally figured out how to make the perfect cup & set the timer so the smell of coffee wakes me up!
• My Ninja “blender”.  I have already made myself a smoothie this morning & I look forward to making myself an iced coffee later when my coffee has been left to get cold!  no more wasting fabulous coffee!!!
• My puppies have finally accepted that they MUST sleep in their kennels at night!!!  They still bark a little at first, but it is getting better! Sophie even takes her naps in it during the day!
• my husband is finally getting deployed.  Yes, it is crappy timing (he’s leaving in June when I am due to deliver), but the extra money will be great while I am not working.
• Sjon remembered to wear his uniform today!  He looks so handsome in it with his new haircut!

There is so much more to be thankful for today, but it is still early & I am only on my 2nd cup of (decaf) coffee, so I may need a bit to gather all my thoughts.

Thinking about moving January 31, 2010

I have been thinking about moving my blog to Blogger.  Apparently I have had this thought before because when I logged into my google account there was already a skeleton of a blog there.  I like all the options with a Blogger blog – I thought…. It always seemed like the people with blogger blogs had cooler blogs than me – better backgrounds, better widgets, and all that stuff.  Well, they must know some secret that I don’t know because I am sadly disappointed by the selection of backgrounds there & all the BS I have to go through just to set up my page!  UGH!!!!  definitely not dummy friendly!   So, I googled for some free templates & such – found a few cute ones – tried to download them – none of them worked!  ok, so I’ll just stick with the skimpy thing I got on there already…but even that has been a hassle to try to get how I want!  And pictures…. can someone tell me the secret to  putting pictures on there??? Not in my posts, but actually ON my PAGE! How frustrating!!!  I could go on & on about the things I just don’t get about it, but there’s no point.

So, here I am, back where I started.  Back to a page where i can’t post all the fabulous pictures I have taken because there’s not enough room.  Back to where only 2 people read my blog & actually comment on it.  back to the place where it seems like all I do is complain ( which is probably why only 2 people read this!).  I just wanted to start over & begin a more positive year…

Knitting for the baby January 30, 2010

I used to love to knit.  I was never very good at it, but it was fun.  I love yarn & how it feels and everything you can do with it.  i love knitting needles and the different kinds (wooden, bamboo, plastic, metal) & sizes & all te accessories.  most of all I love the possibilities. 

Confession #1: I have NEVER finished a knitting project other than washcloths, I have come close with a couple scarves, but I tend to get bored quickly with the same old same old knit, purl, knit, purl.

Confession #2: I know that i knit WRONG.  I do it backwards or upside down or something – I do it my way I guess, so it never really looks like the picture & so it’s frustrating to try new patterns.

But, that doesn’t stop me from trying (I’m a glutton for punishment).

Becky gave me 2 big beautiful skeins of Bernat baby yarn in white and blue for christmas.  She also slipped in a little book of baby patterns for me!  The holidays were crazy for us because we were moving and such, but I tried to keep an eye on my future project during that time.  Somehow, though, I have misplaced the fabulous book and the blue yarn.  Grrrrrr!!!!  I wanted to start my project right away, so there was no time to search – I was having an attack of creativity & it needed to be tended to immediately!

***UPDATE 1/30/09 - I Found the “Blue” yarn – it’s actaully GREEN.  I’m a dork!  But at least I found it!  Then I tried to work on the blanket & discovered that i stopped in the middle of a row & couldn’t for the life of me figure out where I was in the pattern – uh oh!  ****

I searched the internet until i found a cute simple pattern.  I had to refresh myself with some of the terms, but I got it figured out.  I was Off like a herd of turtles ( as my father would say)!

umpteen mistakes

I set it aside…I had to let my mind recoup, and my hands.  i didn’t set it far, as I knew that if i did I would never get back to it.  So for a couple days it sat abandoned on the center console of my couch (had to be careful not to turn my head to fast so I didn’t poke my eyes out with the ends of the needles sticking up from the giant skein of yarn).  Determined to get back to it, I set up the lights & put in a movie i was not very interested in & got comfy on the couch.  I got half a row done.  So after work yesterday morning i tried again.  Ahhh, but with those pillows perfectly positioned and the vibrating recliner on – I was out before my daughter ever got to the bus stop!  So this afternoon I tried AGAIN!  Woo Hoo, finished row 4, finished Row 5 (holy crap I’m on a roll), double checked the pattern so I knew what i was doing for row 6 & …. yeah, back to the center console it went.  I am pretty excited to say that I can actually see the pattern forming and I really like it.  My mistakes are hardly noticable (thank GOD!).  And the pattern is keeping my interest & it’s kinda fun.

I thought about making a few changes, but who am I kidding??  At the most i might be able to find my beautiful blue yarn & add a stripe here or there.  I really think a beautiful white baby blanket would be beautiful though.

I’ll post some pictures as i get further along & I’ll track down the website I got the pattern from & give them proper credit!  Hopefully I will be able to finish this little project before the baby is born! LOL!

Oh, and I also made a Chakra doll. Or, at least i started out making a Chakra Doll. I free handed the body pattern and she looks a little lopsided now that she’s finished. I am making it for my daughters best friend, who has been in and out of hospitals a lot recently. we will put our prayers for good health with the doll and send her on soon, but first i want to try to make it look a little less like a voo doo doll. I will post a picture of her before I mail her!
